Our History

It is considered one of the oldest inns on the Ostbaar and was abandoned for a long time: the "Krone" on Geisinger Hauptstraße. For more than three years, the listed gem, which is over 300 years old, has now been carefully renovated and revived together with the neighboring former residential and commercial building "Oberböhler" and another residential building. The oldest walls of the house can even be dated back to 1280. This is how the new name "1280 Krone" came about.

But not only the Krone itself, but also the two buildings now belonging to it and former residential and commercial buildings "Der Oberböhler" and the "Frommern Haus" have been part of the Geisinger town center since its foundation. According to some sources, this could have been around 1280 - 1300. According to tradition, the lords of Wartenberg founded the town of the same name next to the village of Geisingen.

The first documented mention of the town was in 1329, when the property of the Wartenberg family, which had been extinct since 1321, was transferred to the Counts of Fürstenberg.

The Krone is first mentioned in the chronicles of Haus Fürstenberg in 1569, when the innkeepers fought for their right to run a tavern, which they had lost during the Thirty Years' War.

"The innkeepers complained that the Krone had once been an old manorial house. This Geisinger inn was the one that Count Heinrich had handed over to his former cook after the reconstruction. Only this and one other house had been allowed to display a sign, accommodate and entertain guests. He had documents from 1569 that could prove your rights."

This means that the Krone in Geisingen is probably not only the oldest inn still in existence, but also one of the oldest in the entire Baar region. Like many inns in history, the Krone has also experienced constant changes in its history. With more or less long operators. It initially ended up as a residential building and pizzeria before standing empty for over 10 years.

After almost four years of renovation, the "new" Krone is opened. The result is an amalgamation of three buildings. An extension has been added to the ensemble of buildings, reviving the barn that once stood there. Hanging window frames and gates echo the image of the old Krone barn. Where cattle were once kept and horses parked, hotel guests now have space to relax and enjoy themselves.

Architect Markus Uhrig and owner Christoph von Bothmer have created an architectural masterpiece here. A construction project that was only possible thanks to passion and dedication, but above all with an indispensable and tireless team of craftsmen and construction workers.

If the walls could talk, we would certainly hear many wonderful stories from the almost 750-year history - which were characterized by exciting, beautiful, scary or sad experiences. But perhaps it's also a good thing that this is the case and that we don't know everything, leaving more scope for our imagination. And now it's time to write new stories.
